A medication review allows you to sit down with a pharmacist and thoroughly review all your medications. This process can help determine if you are taking your medications properly and catch possible side effects or problems. This process also checks for drug interactions that may not be caught if you use more than one
pharmacy or take over-the-counter medications. If you are unable to meet in person, you may be able to complete the process over the phone. There are a few steps you can take to simplify your medication review.

  • Gather all your medications, including both prescription and over-the-counter. Don’t forget about those medications you may only take as needed (Tylenol, Advil, inhalers, etc.). If you are meeting in person, take all your medications with you to the appointment.
  • Write down any questions you can think of beforehand so you don’t forget to get all your concerns addressed.
  • Be prepared for questions about your medication allergies, medical conditions, and how you take each medication.

After your review, you will be given or mailed a copy of everything you went over with the pharmacist for your records. If you have Medicare, a medication review can be completed once a year at no cost to you.
